Snog-Worthy: 7 Silly Ways to Kiss on Valentine’s Day

Looking for a Kiss with a twist?

For the Bezzie looking to boost the romantic comedy in your life, here are seven silly kisses to try this Valentine’s Day from

The two of you shuffle your feet furiously on carpet. When you both have an electric charge, lean over and slowly aim for each other’s lips. With your lips about one-half inch apart, move in slower until a spark jumps between the two of you. Instantly after this happens, kiss one another… and let the sparks fly!

Use 3M Post-It notes to make a trail through your house that leads to  your lips. Put a lipstick print (we suggest our Ladybird Lippy) on each note with an arrow pointing to the next note. You, of course, are at the end of the trail with a Post-It note over your lips that says, “LIFT FOR KISS”

Celebrate frosty February days with an ice with an ice kiss. Put an ice cube in your mouth until your mouth becomes cold. Remove the cube, track down your love and plant a kiss that will send chills! A gloss is great with this kiss as water will enhance the shine.

Find a Morse code chart. Using long and short kisses, spell out a message to your love and have them try to decipher it. A dash of Lippy Tinted Balm will ensure the message is received!

Cut out small red tissue lips, and place them inside an opaque balloon filled with helium (any party store could do this for you). Tie the balloon to your love’s chair at dinner. Dessert is a show of kisses.

Next time you are driving your love somewhere, stop the car before crossing a bridge or going through a tunnel, and say the toll must be paid before you can go any further. Of course, the toll cost is one kiss… at least! Use our Moisture Matte Lippy so your pucker stays in place with each peck!

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with kisses in the shape of a “V” on the face of your lover. Use Lippy Liquid Lipstick to leave your mark!

Whichever kiss you choose, a good kiss starts with the right Lippy. Whether matte, gloss or liquid, here are our top shade suggestions to inspire any type of kiss!

A deep berry creme will have your valentine coming back and asking for seconds! We are obsessed with Ruby Murray for her on-trend colour and velvety finish. Think Vampy Valentine this year!

Red is classic all year round but at Valentine’s, it is iconic. We adore Ladybird all the more this year for her fiery hues. This shade of red turns up the heat!

Pink is a must-have for everyone and we recommend Primrose Hill Picnic. It is the perfect shade of flirt!

Best In Beauty-The Super Bowl

While the big show is full of suspense, excitement, drama, and emotion, we would be remiss if we didn’t admit our love for the spectacular that is the Halftime show.

In the last decade or so, there have been some standout performances from some of our favourite pop artists. Here, we’ll count down our top 5 beauty moments from Super Bowl’s past, in preparation of Katy Perry’s surely showstopping performance on Sunday.

5. Prince-2007

I mean…it’s Prince! It literally rains purple around him. Ok, maybe not purple, but it did rain. And is that guyliner we spy?

4. Gwen Stefani-2003

While Gwen Stefani has had many looks since No Doubt (pink hair, blue hair, bindi, braces) one thing always remains-her timeless black liner/red lip combo, and a crimson mani. We love that she was ‘Just A Girl’ with the boys at the Super Bowl, giving our forever 13-year-old hearts something to cheer for.

3. Janet Jackson-2004

Let’s face it-her brother Michael may have been the King of Pop, but Janet has always been the fiercest Jackson around. Surrounded by backup dancers in graphic liner and major contouring, Janet’s ultra cool, rosie-bronze makeup was the hottest come-hither look of 2004. That is, until it was over-shadowed by Nipplegate.

2. Britney Spears-2001

Oh Britney. 2001 was your year. Slave was a hit, Justin was your boo, and let’s face it-your bod was bangin’. Mix that with enviable blond hair and ‘Girl Next Door does Rocker Chic’ makeup, and there you will find our favourite Britney.

1. Beyonce-2013

Say heyyyyyyy Ms. Carter! Beyonce has been our spirit animal since her ‘Crazy In Love’ days, and we were thrilled that her performance was at once a greatest hits collaboration and a Destiny’s Child reunion. In true Queen B fashion, she took the stage looking flawless as ever with her signature long curly locks, and a stand-out smoky eye. But the real show-stopper was her gold manicure, highlighted by leather fingerless gloves. Definitely some hand adornment we can get behind.

The One Where Puppies Came To The Office

January 28, 2015 will go down in history as the best day EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR… today, we got puppies.

As many of you know, Uber is infamous for their amazing surprise and delight specials: kittens, ice cream, even Santa & his elves, have been available for office drive by’s in recent history. This morning, Uber announced that in preparation for Animal Planet’s PUPPY BOWL XI, they were teaming up with PAWS (a local companion animal shelter) to bring some of their puppies up for adoption to local offices for a 15 minute cute break. At 11AM PST, our ENTIRE TEAM logged into their Uber and got to work.

At 1:15PM, our puppy dreams came true, and our friends Jen and Adam from Uber arrived with our sweet new puppy loves-Beast Mode, Rustle, and Wilson. (GO HAWKS!)  We even offered up “pawicures” but the pups were a little pre-occupied.

A huge thanks to PAWS and Uber for bringing these three little bundles of joy to our office this afternoon, Kacy (our Director of Ecomm) for having the lucky trigger finger, and the biggest thanks of ALL goes to our CFO Michael, who finally let us have dogs in the office for this one time deal!

Make sure to check out Uber’s individual city pages for pics of the pups in your area! You might just want to take one home.

5 Things To Do When Snowed In

Our dear East Coasters, we envy you. We are wistfully taking in your Instagrams, Facebook posts and tweets about your endlessly fun snow day, and willing the weather channel to bring us some of the white stuff. (Is there anything better than a snowball fight with your bezzies, followed by a Netflix marathon snuggled up on the couch with some hot cocoa, we think not.)

However, when the whimsy of your snowmaggedon wears off, and the cabin fever sets in, we have some fool proof home activities to help you fight the boredom!

1. Touch Up That Mani!

  • Come on, what did you expect from us? You have a bucket load of free time, so make sure those talons are shaped and shining!

2. Start Cooking

  • Now is the perfect time to try that recipe you haven’t had the time for. Pull on that apron, get out the whisk, and get to work!

3. Craft!

  • Wouldn’t your grandma be delighted to receive a handmade Valentine’s Day card from you this year?

4. Make Your Own Olaf

  • Everyone saw Frozen (don’t try to pretend you didn’t) and everyone fell in love with the silly, little snowman. Wouldn’t it be awesome to look out your window and see your very own version of him?!

5. Pull Out Those Board Games

  • It’s been a while since you played Monopoly, or better yet, Girl Talk. Reminisce with your roomies over a classic game and a bottle of wine.

Enjoy your snow day!

Nail Care: How To Get Your Nails In Shape In The New Year

Take a gander at your nails. Are your cuticles dry?  Do you see ridges? Or are you just looking to make your nails stronger?  Proper nail care can give you new nails in the new year.

January is a time of resolutions.  It is a time to put our best foot forward and better ourselves. We put additional focus on our health – how to lose weight, how to stop smoking, how to eat healthy.  Strong women deserve strong nails so make proper nail care a part of your everyday health regime.  Here are three simple steps to new nails in the new year.

EXFOLIATION: Step 1 for healthy nails in the new year

Exfoliation is the first step in nail care.  It is pre-manicure as part of your prep.  Exfoliation should focus on the cuticles – polishing away excess, unevenness and snags – without clipping.  For best results, try our Melt Away™ Cuticle treatment – link below. Melt Away™ is a fast-acting exfoliator that removes dry, rigid overgrown cuticles in minutes.   Bezzie bonus:  using Melt Away™ means no water needed for your manicure – so you can polish on the go!

“Right away I noticed a difference. I used this and a cuticle tool and my hands look so polished and even. I can’t stop staring at them and I’m no longer pushing my cuticles back as a nervous habit. It looks like a professional manicure every time. And a little goes a long way so the price is worth it!” – nightwing

STRENGTHEN: Step 2 for healthy nails in the new year

Strengthening is the second step in nail care. Strong nails are the foundation to any nail look from cuticles to tips. Strong nails mean less splitting, tearing or breaking for your nails and less cracking or chipping for your lacquer.  Try our Horse Power™ Nail Fertilizer treatment –link below.  Horse Power™ strengthens and repairs nails as well as protects them from future damage with Horsetail Extract.  Horsetail Extract is an herb that not only restores but promotes healthy growth.  Bezzie bonus:  Horse Power™ is formulated to also act as a base coat or a topcoat – so you can strengthen and style your nails at the same time.

“My nails have always snapped off at a certain point in growth, no matter what I did or tried. This is the first thing that’s ever helped them grow longer than that. I’m hooked!” – shutterblog

HYDRATE: Step 3 for healthy nails in the new year

Finally, hydrate is the third step in nail care.  Nourishing your nails should be an everyday activity.  Like lotion for the skin, we need to hydrate our cuticles.  Try our Handbag Holiday™ Cuticle Oil treatment for best results.  It softens and provides instant, lasting hydration to cuticles with Safflower Oil.  And you will love the way it smells – just a hint of pineapple. Bezzie bonus:  Handbag Holiday™ can protect from smudging a fresh manicure.  Simply brush over Hardwear Topcoat 2-3 minutes after its set.  Great for doing nails at night – no sheet marks!

Handbag Holiday_0002

“Truly like a tropical holiday the aroma of this cuticle oil is phenomenal. I relieved it as a Christmas gift and it has been fantastic relief for the harsh dryness of winter. My cuticles stay soft and tamed making my manicures easier to apply and last longer.” – shauna

The Best Bezzie Bonus:  All three steps (and more) in one set

And right now, you can get all three together – along with our renowned base and top coat as well as our signature matte finish – as part of our Apothecary set.  It is a steal at $39 and a great way to trial our treatments.

Shandy & Chevron Go Hand In Hand

It’s beer, it’s lemonade….it’s a Shandy!

The Shandy first appeared in Britain in the mid-nineteenth century. Shandygaff is the older British name for The Shandy – a drink made of beer mixed with lemonade, ginger ale or ginger beer. The result is light, slightly sweet, spiked with hints of lemon or ginger, and easily drinkable.  Beer and lemon have been dance partners for decades, so pull out your party shoes and try this pairing to ring in your new year

The Shandy recipe:

  • Use pilsner glasses.  Pour lemonade half way, finish with beer.
  • Looking for a twist?   Use ginger beer and a dash or two of bitters.  Pour ingredients into a pilsner glass and stir to combine.

The Chevron look:

Kick Your New Year’s Into High Gear

Glitter up to the bar for the Sidecar.

The Sidecar was directly named for the motorcycle attachment – but that is the only thing the English and French have agreed upon when it comes to this cocktail.  According to bartender lore, the Sidecar was first introduced in London at the Buck’s Club.  It is dark and rich in color but light and tart in taste, so an ombre nail in rich hues of fading color is a perfect mate for this classic. Accelerate the fun on New Year’s with this ombre pairing!

The English Sidecar recipe, courtesy of the Savoy Hotel in London:

  • ½ ounce of lemon juice
  • ½ ounce of Cointreau
  • 1 ounce of brandy
  • Shake it like a boss, then strain into a cocktail glass
  • Looking for a twist?  Rim the lip of the glass with sugar

New Year’s nail look:

For Your Eyes Only

Double-O Delicious and Dark Nails!

Her Majesty’s Secret Service could not prevent us from exposing this New Year’s pairing to the world.  Light and dark unite for this party duo – a dark nail with the classic martini.  While no longer just a gentleman’s drink, we stayed true to the Bond preparation – shaken, not stirred, of course.  Our nail look pays homage to 007 by combining the darkness of Dr. No with gilded accents from Goldfinger.  Make sure to try this pairing on New Year’s Eve – You Only Live Twice.

 Bond’s martini recipe:

  • 1 ½ ounces premium vodka
  • ¾ ouce dry vermouth
  • 2 dashes of bitters
  • Shaken, not stirred
  • Lemon twist for garnish

For a twist, try Vesper’s version from Casino Royale:

  • 3 measures of Gordon’s Gin
  • 1 measure of premium vodka
  • ½ measure of Kina Lillet
  • Shaken, no stirred
  • Lemon peel for garish

Dark nail look:

  • Paint two coats of Clockwork Heart across entire nail
  • Apply Brass Goggles as the base of nail, in a semi-circular shape
  • Finish and seal in with Hardwear Top Coat

It’s a Party in a Cup

Add a bit of classic Brit to your next party by serving up this refreshing concoction of dry gin, liqueur, fruit juices, and spices. Pimm’s is a traditional English potation and when served with lemon soda or ginger ale it becomes a Pimm’s Cup.  Pimm’s was created in the mid-18th century by English oyster bar owner James Pimm. The Pimm’s Cup is the traditional drink of Wimbledon, with visitors to the matches consuming some 40,000 pints a year.  But don’t wait until Wimbledon, cheers on New Years with a Pimm’s Cup and these pretty party nails.

The Pimm’s Cup recipe:

  • Gently muddle cucumber and lemon slices in a chilled highball glass.
  • Pour in Pimm’s and lemon-lime soda, or ginger ale – stir to combine.
  • Add ice to fill the glass and garnish with the lemon.
  • Looking for a twist?  Add local or seasonal fruit – we chose cranberry for the holidays.

The nail look:

  • Apply two coats of Full Steam as the foundation.
  • Use Bobby Dazzler for the stripes which are placed on different areas of the nail, at different widths and angles – so each nail is unique
