Nothing screams September like heading back to school. Though we are long past the days of book bags and lockers, some of the lessons we learned from our high school days are still prevalent today. We asked some of the team here at HQ to reflect on their high school beauty routines and tell us how those experimental days shaped how they get ready now. Today, we’re chatting with Melody, our Digital Marketing Manager, about how her routine has changed from then to now.
Being the youngest of three girls, you’d think I’d have been a makeup junkie by the time I was 16. Well, you’re wrong. Partially. I hardly knew how to pluck an eyebrow but fortunately for me, my oldest sister was a makeup artist at MAC. I not only had access to all the makeup I wanted, but I would watch her do makeup on herself and friends every day. It wasn’t long before I would wait for her to go to work and sneak into her stash. My go to look? A gold, shiny lid (ala JLo) and a rosy cheek fit for clowns. That became my go to. But, because I had the entire collection at my fingertips, I’d probably use 8-10 products on my youthful baby face. Strobe cream, pressed powder, clear mascara for my untamed brows and bronzer. All of the things. I begrudgingly look back on those pictures and swear I look older than I do today.
My makeup routine today has the same essentials in theory, but I’m older and wiser, guys! I’m slightly more refined. All I need is some Tailored Brow Tint to comb my wild brows into place, a swipe of Hibiscus blush from our BlushClutch collection, and Double Decker Lashes mascara to lock it all into place. These days, if I’m trying to channel my inner Jenny from the Block, I’ll add a swipe of Glazen in Spark for a little dazzle. It always does the trick.
