Hello friends! Welcome to your summer edition of bL book club. We rounded up our favorite books for lounging at the beach or poolside (or even camping, if that’s your jam!). Check out our picks and then let us know what you’re reading this summer in the comments!
Easily the hands-down favorite of our book club, Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple hit some key checkpoints for us.
- It’s close to home! The book takes place in Seattle (home of butter LONDON HQ) and it was fun to see our fair city personified in this novel. She really hit it on the head!
- Humor! There’s no doubt this book is funny. If you like a lighter read on vacation, this one is perfect for you.
- Heart. At the core of the book, it’s all about family.
BEAUTY BUY: There’s nothing more synonymous with Seattle than grunge. Plush Rush lipstick in Buzzed is 90’s grunge personified.
The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey is an interesting take on a post-apocalyptic society. Told through the perspective of a young girl describing the only life she’s ever known, this book is an intense page-turner that you will not want to put down.
BEAUTY BUY: You’ll be feeling a smoky eye for nights out when you’re reading this book. Grab a SmokeStick in Night Shift!
If you love a good mystery, this one’s for you! Liane Moriarty’s powerful novel, Big Little Lies, is about a group of women with secrets of tragedy and abuse. Told from multiple point of views, Big Little Lies captures you from page one and leaves you hanging until the fateful Trivia Night.
BEAUTY BUY: There’s nothing a suburban mum loves more than gossip and a nude mani. Grab our Mum’s The Word Patent Shine 10X lacquer and then share some secrets over a glass of wine with friends.
Conspiracy theorists unite! Libra by Don Delillo is a fictional depiction of the life of Lee Harvey Oswald and speculates that the CIA was involved in the assassination of JFK. Because who doesn’t love a little conspiracy story?!
BEAUTY BUY: Channel 60’s glam with a classic red lip. We like Plush Rush in Impulsive.
RomCom lovers, this one’s for you. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simison is an unconventional love story between a socially awkward genetics professor, and a charismatic ‘barmaid’ (you’ll understand the quotes when you read it.) Although there are certainly some cringe-worthy moments, it’s a sweet story of two complete and total opposites learning how to navigate time spent with each other.
BEAUTY BUY: Rosie’s quirky sensibility will surely rub off on you! Try our new Glazen Eye Gloss in Oil Slick for a unique eye look!
Okay, your turn! Let us know what we should add to our summer reading list. Happy reading!
