The dreaded chip. We all know it, we hate it, and unfortunately it’s unavoidable. However, it is possible to extend your mani past the first couple of days! Here are some great tips (some from our very own Katie Jane Hughes herself) about how to keep that mani fresh!
1. Start with a clean nail bed
Like everything else in our lives, our nail beds carry oil and grime. Always start your mani by clearing your nail bed of debris using rubbing alcohol, acetone, or even our Scrubbers Remover Pads! They’re perfect for mani prep.
2. Wrap the tip
Skimming the free edge of your nail with each coat helps to reduce immediate wear. The top coat is especially essential in the wrapping process!
3. Paint thin
The thinner the coat, the harder it is to peel! We’ve all done it-piled on layers of sheer colours to ensure perfection-but it will peel off in a sheet! Don’t do it! Paint thin and you’re on your way to a long lasting mani.
4. Use the free edge of your nail as little as possible
Ok, long-talon’d ladies (like myself), this is a hard one. Try typing without hitting the free edge of your nail! Difficult right? It can be done! Avoid using your nails as much as possible. Short nailed girls, you’re in the clear! Just be careful opening soda cans…or wine bottles.
5. Wear rubber gloves
The number one offender of a hack mani? H2O! Wear those rubber gloves while doing chores. Load on some of your favorite lotion beforehand and you’ll end up with envialbly soft hands when you’re done! (And that, my friends, is a double hack for you).
